Can my parents sponsor my Australian Student Visa?
One of our students recently asked: “My parents are supporting me financially — can I still apply?” The answer is yes.
In many cases, students can use financial support from parents or sponsors, as long as the documents clearly show access to the funds. This may include bank statements, proof of income, or education loan documents.
Keep in mind — future part-time work in Australia cannot be used as financial evidence. At Study Gurus, we help students prepare strong financial documents step by step for a successful visa application. Get in touch with us today.

FAQs Minimum Financial Evidence
What is minimum financial evidence for a student visa?
Minimum financial evidence is the proof you must provide to show that you have enough funds to cover your tuition fees, living expenses, travel costs, and any dependents (if applicable) while studying in Australia.
How much money do I need to show?
The exact amount depends on your circumstances:
Tuition fees for your course(s)
Living costs (currently around AUD 29,710 per year for a single student)
Travel costs to and from Australia
Additional costs for family members accompanying you
What types of financial evidence are accepted?
You can provide:
- Bank statements or bank guarantees
- Annual Income of at least $72,465
- Loan approval letters
How recent should the financial documents be?
Documents are usually required to be issued within the last 3 months, depending on the type of evidence.
Can I use funds from a family member or sponsor?
Yes, parents or a close family member can provide you with financial support. The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) recognises that students often rely on financial support from their parents or close family members.
Do I need to show the total amount in one account?
No, you can show combined evidence from multiple sources, as long as the total meets the minimum financial requirements.
Is there a specific format required for bank statements?
Bank statements should be official, showing:
Account holder’s name
Current balance
Transaction history
Bank logo or stamp
What happens if I don’t provide sufficient financial evidence?
Your student visa application may be delayed or refused until you provide satisfactory proof of funds.
Can I include future income or employment offers?
Only current accessible funds are accepted. Future or potential income is usually not considered reliable for the application.
